Beige G3 Tower – Optical Drives

A few weeks ago, I swapped out the Zip drive in my Beige G3 Tower for a CD-RW drive I had laying around. I was surprised that is is fully supported in Mac OS X 10.2.8. It is a Philips manufactured ReWritable-2x2x6. So far I’ve used it with Disk Copy and Finder. It worked well both times. I did make one coaster though, but that was most likely due to me ejecting a CD from the DVD drive while a CD-R was burning. By the way, the DVD drive is a Creative DVD1241E. It has problems reading some CDs, but I think it was like that when the drive was in a PC. DVDs don’t play well. That is due to an archaic video card, which happens to be onboard video and from the pre-DVD era. A Radeon 7000 64MB is on the list as an upgrade for this machine.
