Computer SkillsPC and Macintosh maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Installation and maintenance of operating systems and programs software.
Operating systems experience:
- PC’s: Windows 3.X/9X/NT/2000/XP, DOS, Linux (various flavors), BeOS, OS/2, and QNX.
- Mac’s: Mac OS 6.0-9.2.2, Mac OS X 10.2.X (Jaguar) and 10.3.X (Panther), BeOS, and Linux (Debian and YDL).
Internet programs experience:
- Web browsers: Mozilla, Netscape, FireFox, Internet Explorer, iCab, Safari, etc.
- FTP clients: RBrowser Lite, WS_FTP, etc.
- Blogging software: MovableType, WordPress, etc.
- Command line programs: Apache, FTP, MySQL, SSH, Telnet, etc.
- Web design: CSS, HTML, PHP, etc.
Office / productivity programs experience:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), WordPerfect, OpenOffice, and Appleworks.
- Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat Professional, GoLive, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
Science programs experience:
- Chemistry: Cambridge ChemOffice (ChemDraw, Chem3D, etc.) and ACD Labs Chemistry Suite.
- Data analysis: Igor Pro and Origin.
- Information & reference searching: SciFinder Scholar, Beilstein Commander, and Internet search engines.
- Molecular modeling and computation: Spartan, Titan, and Gaussian 03.
Utility programs experience:
- PC’s: Anti-virus protection and spyware removal software, Norton Utilites, Partition Magic, etc.
- Mac’s: Norton Anti-Virus & Utilities, DiskWarrior, Disk Copy, Disk/Drive Utility, etc.
Hardware component and peripherals experience:
- Cases, power supplies (AT, ATX), fans, and external enclosures (IDE, SCSI).
- CPUs, mainboards / motherboards, and RAM.
- Interface / storage controllers: PCI to IDE, SCSI, USB, and Firewire.
- Input devices: keyboards, mice, pen / drawing tablets, and scanners (SCSI, USB).
- Modems and network interface cards: PCMCIA, PCI, and USB.
- Output devices: monitors, printers, sound cards, and speakers.
- Storage devices: floppy drives (3.5” and 5.25”), hard drives (IDE.SCSI), CD-ROM drives (IDE, SCSI), CD-RW recorders (IDE), DVD-ROM drives(IDE), DVD+/-RW recorder (IDE, USB, Firewire), and ZIP drives 100/250(IDE, USB).
