The End of Civilization as We Know It?
Published by Sean June 15th, 2005 in Computers, Personal. As Jeff Adkins pondered recently in his articled entitled, “Apple + Intel Spells the End of Western Civilization”, what is the point of advertising when you can no longer believe anything they say? Every new product, be it a computer or new summer blockbuster, is typically hyped beyond all belief, so when you finally make a purchase, you’re diappointed in it. Of course, you eventually forget enough about the diappointment, that you think the hype about the next great thing might be true.
If people tell you what you can really do with the product, maybe even make them aware of the limitations, then people will quite possibly appreciate it better. For an example, I have not been at the bleeding edge of technology for a long time now, so I’ve grown to appreciate older technology and what it can do.
I have my doubts though that the hype will stop any time soon, but I am optimistic. Maybe, just maybe, one day politicians and corporations would start telling the truth, too. Hah! I know, that’s a good one.
