It’s time we bought a new digital camera. The Ricoh RDC-6000 that we got through Freecycle a year ago is acting up more and more. Now the flash doesn’t want to work. The pictures weren’t ever that great. Most of the time they came out a little fuzzy. So much for this 2 Mpixel camera. Although I had to buy an AC adapter and memory card, at least I didn’t have to pay for this camera.
We have to go back to the previous digital camera that we were using, an Apple QuickTake 150, that I bought from a Salvation Army near Canoga Park, CA for around $20 about three years ago. It’s now a ten year old camera with a whopping resolution of 640 by 480 (~0.3 Mpixel) and memory for 16 pictures, with the option of taking 32 pictures at 320 by 240. Though it might not give the best pictures by today’s standards, it’s dependable and is a testament to the quality of Apple’s (and Kodak’s, the camera’s manufacturer) craftsmanship. I’ve been using my Powerbook 5300cs running Mac OS 8.1 to pull the pictures off of the camera and quickly convert them from pict files to jpeg’s using a program called QuickTake Drop. I’ll post a few pics soon.
