I found out from a friend of mine at work today that recent dissertations from ProQuest, the company that archives quite a few of them, has started using Amazon and Google / Google Scholar to expand the audience beyond the academic community. You can see mine here.
According to ProQuest, dissertations from 2005 will be removed from Amazon in 2007 to make room for new items from the latest year. At any time though, you should still be able to get it from ProQuest themselves here.
It’s kind of neat to see it out on Amazon. I’m torn though, because I won’t receive much, if any, royalties until a relatively large number of copies are bought. Not that I’m greedy or anything, but I spent many a year working on it, only to have someone else profit.
So, something useful I can do at this point is to say that it’s a great read. You’ll learn a lot about life, love, and the joys of pushing back the boundaries of science!
Buy them as stocking stuffers, they make great gifts, not just for Christmas, but Kwanzaa, Hannukah, Yule, Winter Solstice, Saturnalia, and let’s not forget Wintereenmas! Make it a truly happy holiday this year.
