Rethink Everything

Here are some things I’ve been thinking about for a while now. I haven’t finished them yet, but I wanted to put them out into the ether.

There’s a great many problems in this world in which we live. Sometimes these problems seem that they have no easy fix. I happen to agree that there is no easy fix, but I believe there are solutions. They are not simple and they require us to rethink everything.

The way to solve many of our problems is to think in the long term, planning for the future. First and foremost we need to revamp the education system. For too long, low expectations and a paucity of motivation, has driven large portions of the population to not know how to think critically and not value the role of education itself. Concurrently, the lack of well-paying careers has left many of seek glory and/or money through gangs, criminal organizations, and illegal activities.

Rethink everything about our education system. A comprehensive reconstruction of our education system is needed, with high expectations for students, teachers, and parents. Its in the nation’s, and even the world’s, best interests to have well-educated children, so that they may grow up to be well-educated adults who will know how to think critically, be able to understand logic and scientific reasoning, be considerate and tolerant of differences, and be able to communicate their thoughts with others.

Rethink everything about our job market. A comprehensive job policy would give meaning to many people’s lives. There are many things that need to be done.

Rethink everything about our world. There are threats to the our very survival as a species. All of these threats can be overcome. Global warming. Violent religious fanaticism from all faiths. Pollution. Resources for life and livelihoods, be they clean water, healthy and plentiful food, and clean, renewable, and reliable energy.
