I have a collection of computers that I accumulated over the years, most of which I have acquired when I moved to California for graduate school. Over the past few years, I have thinned it out considerably by giving most of them away through Freecycle.
My wife uses a Dell Dimension 9150 system, on which she runs Windows XP Home Service Pack 2. She does a lot of graphics work and website design. For examples of her work, please visit Blessed Blogger and Charmed Design.
I use a self-built Pentium 4 2.40GHz that runs Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I recently installed an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9800 PRO to use the OS’s PVR program, which is working well.
I have set up another system using the Athlon XP 2000+ components for the TV in the bedroom. It is also running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE Dual TV/FM card. Later on I might see how well another Windows-based MCE alternative functions, such as Media Portal, or a Linux-based MythTV setup.
The other computer I use when I am at home is a Power Macintosh Beige G3 Tower, on which I mostly run Mac OS X 10.4.11. I sometimes boot into Mac OS 9.2.2 or Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1, and rarely Windows 98 SE through Virtual PC 6.
